Utilities
Users of the IREAN system will find a number of utilities which provide measurement capability with synthesized speech readback on command. These measurements include user's S-Meter reading into the repeater receiver, inside, outside and system temperatures along with system voltages. Along with various analog measurements, users can also their check their DTMF keypad and check the time and date.

Along with the normal measurements, the repeater will periodically make measurements and store highs and lows for various measurement channels and tags them with the time and date of the high and low measurement. Users of the system can interrogate these measurements as well.

This remote metering provides a general remote diagnostics capability for the repeater equipment, allows users to determine the characteristics of their transmitted signals and provides information of general interest to all repeater users. Commands for interrogating system status are:

Users, please note: When requesting an S-Meter reading, the S-Meter only returns the measurement of the signal entering on the 224.82 MHz repeater input. If you were using one of the linked repeaters at the time you requested the measurement, you will hear the measurement of the link signal reaching the 224.82 MHz repeater, not the signal strength of your signal into the linked repeater. The S-Meter command is only valid when you are using the 224.82 MHz repeater directly. Be sure to hold your PTT for 1 complete second before entering the 81 command. This allows the receiver S-Meter circuitry to settle properly and return an accurate measurement.

A better indication to a user as to how their signal sounds into the repeater is to make a brief recording using the Digital Voice Recorder. To hear an actual recording of your own signal into the repeater system, refer to DVR.

The Touch-Tone pad test allows repeater users to verify correct operation of their Touch-Tone pads. The repeater reads back the sequence of keys sent following the Touch-Tone Keypad Test Prefix 5. The readback is in synthesized speech and the key sequence may contain up to 32 keys.

To check the current local time, enter the command 80.

The repeater also provides five bulletin boards for users to retrieve multiple system status messages with one command sequence. This helps keep users from having to enter multiple commands to get system information. The command sequences are as follows:

      Bulletin Board Description Command
      Check local time and date 3 * * 1
      Check all system temperatures     3 * * 2
      Check all system voltages 3 * * 3
