| A callsign demonstration and various maibox
messages may be activated by users. The callsign demo message causes the repeater to announce
the callsign that has been assigned to a mailbox/auto-dial location. The mailbox allows users
to leave preprogrammed canned messages for other users and the repeater system to leave
messages for users and control operators. Callsign Demo If you are a user of the IREAN system and have been assigned an autodial/mailbox, you can hear your callsign demo message by entering the command 3 xx where xx is your mailbox number between 00 and 99. The repeater will respond with "(callsign) from the WB6CDN repeater." You can also check others mailboxes to see who's callsign has been assigned to them. This is useful when using the mailbox utility to send canned messages between users. Mailboxes The mailbox allows users with callsigns stored in the repeater non-volatile memory to leave nd retreive message to and from other users. There are ten preprogrammed canned messages available to users. Refer to Access Codes for the list of available message. Mail can be entered and retreived at any time by any user. Commands are available to list any mail stored in the repeater. Additional commands allow users to retreive and erase their mail. Mail is automatically tagged with the time and date of entry. When mail is retreived, the time entered is announced with "today's" or "yesterday" to indicate the date of entry. Mail is automatically erased at midnight of the following day to prevent cluttering up of old mail. During the initial ID of the repeater system, a message is included at the end of the initial ID to indicate any stored mail in the repeater. When the repeater sends the initial ID, the response is as follows: "(CW) DE WB6CDN (DVR Mail Announcement) (voice) X messages" where X is the number of stored messages. If there is no mail in either the DVR or the mailbox, users will only hear the CW callsign. Refer to DVR for more information on storing DVR Mail. Retreiving a mail list If users hear the "X messages" message in an initial ID message, the only command users need to enter to reteive a mail list of all users who have mail is the command 0. The command 0 may also be entered at any time to check the mailbox status. If there is a message waiting specifically for you, enter the command 0 xx where xx is your mailbox number. The repeater will respond with "(your callsign) (sending callsign) (canned message) Time Entered (time) (today/yesterday)." If there is more than one message waiting for you in your mailbox, all messages will be played. Deleting Mail To delete the mail you just heard from your mailbox, enter the command 0 xx * where xx is your mailbox number and * indicates to the repeater you want to delete your mail. The repeater will respond, "Cancel Messages." All mail in the mailbox specified for deletion will then be deleted from the system. Sending Mail To send a canned message from one user to another, enter the command 0 xx yy k where xx is the mailbox to send the message to, yy is your mailbox number or the mailbox to send the message from and k is the canned message number 0 to 9. Refer to Access Codes for available messages. Appending numbers to a canned message All canned messages can have a phone number or frequency appended to it. Some canned messages have been setup specifically to have a phone number or frequency appended at the time of entry. Example, Send message 6 from user 32 to user 11 and append phone # 555-1234. Key your radio, identify yourself and enter the command 0 11 32 6 5551234. Disecting the command, 0 indicates a mailbox function. 11 is send to mailbox 11. 32 is send from mailbox 32. 6 is send canned message #6 (Call Me At). And 5551234 is a phone number to append to message 6. Another example, send message 7 from user 11 to user 32 and append the freq. 145.52. Key your radio, identify yourself and enter the command 0 32 11 7 14652. Disecting the command, 0 again indicates a mailbox function. 32 is send to mailbox 32. 11 is send from mailbox 11. 7 is send canned message #7 (Call me on). And 14652 is the frequency 146.52. |
