Autopatch
Repeater users may place phone calls using one of three different types of autopatches available:

Manual Autopatch
User Autodial (240 locations - 10 through 249)
Emergency Autodial (10 locations - 0 through 9)

*Manual
  Autopatch
The user enters the actual phone number as part of the command to activate the autopatch. The repeater will optionally (user controlled) read back the phone number before dialing. The repeater allows any number with four or more digits to be dialed; subject to the built in antidialer and toll restrictions.

*User
  Autodial
The user enters a command which specifies one of 240 autodial memory locations which store frequently dialed numbers. The repeater will read back the autodial location and optionally (user controlled) the phone number stored in the requested location before dialing.

*Emergency
  Autodial
The user enters a command which specifies one of ten autodial memory locations which store emergency service numbers. The repeater will read back the name of the emergency number stored in the requested location before dialing.

Activating the Manual Autopatch

The autopatch is activated by entering the autopatch command prefix followed by the phone number to be dialed. The command is entered as one sequence without unkeying between the command prefix and the phone number. Phone numbers may consist of between 4 and 18 digits. Each number is checked against a built in antidialer table and toll restriction algorithm before dialing. Operator and three digit phone company services may not be dialed.

Once the command has been entered to place an autopatch, the repeater will respond, "Autopatch Up." Once the repeater announces this message, it has properly decoded the command string and is waiting for the user to make a decision to have the phone number read back or cancelled.

If the user chooses to cancel the phone number read back, the user is required to "click" their PTT briefly after hearing the "Autopatch Up" message. This click refers to a brief transmission (> 200 mSec) by the user to signal the repeater to go ahead and dial the number.

If the user chooses to have the repeater read back the phone number, a brief "click" is not required and the repeater will read back the phone number entered after a brief pause following the "Autopatch Up" message.

After the repeater reads back the number entered, the user has to make a decision before the repeater will dial the number. If the number was correct, the user is required to "click" their PTT to signal the repeater to dial the number. If no "click" is seen by the repeater, indicating the number may have been entered incorrectly, the repeater will cancel dialing of the number and the normal courtesy tone will be heard.

Some examples of procedures to properly access the manual autopatch on the system to dial 555-1234 would consist of the following:

Ex. 1     Manual Autopatch procedure with readback:

1. User keys radio and identifies (ie. W7ABC for the autopatch).
2. User enters *555-1234 in one sequence and releases PTT.
3. Repeater responds "Autopatch Up."
4. User does not "click" their PTT.
5. Repeater responds "5 5 5 1 2 3 4."
6. User "clicks" their PTT.
7. Repeater dials the number and places phone call on the air.

Ex. 2     Manual Autopatch procedure without phone number readback:

1. User keys radio and identifies (ie. W7ABC for the autopatch).
2. User enters *555-1234 in one sequence and releases PTT.
3. Repeater responds "Autopatch Up."
4. User "clicks" their PTT.
5. Repeater dials the number and places phone call on the air.

Ex. 3     Manual Autopatch procedure with readback and cancel:

1. User keys radio and identifies (ie. W7ABC for the autopatch).
2. User enters *555-1234 in one sequence and releases PTT.
3. Repeater responds "Autopatch Up".
4. User does not "click" their PTT.
5. Repeater responds "5 5 5 1 2 3 4."
6. User does not "click" their PTT.
7. Repeater cancels autopatch. Returns with normal courtesy tone and hangtime.

Activating the User Autodial

The User Autodialer stores up to 240 telephone numbers and is intended for storage of user's home phone numbers and other frequently dialed numbers. Phone numbers are programmed for users by the repeater trustee or repeater control operators. Refer to contacts for a list of control operators and programmers.

Like the Manual Autopatch, the User Autodial is activated by entering the Autopatch Command Prefix followed by an autodial location 10 through 249. The command is entered as one sequence swithout unkeying between the command prefix and the autodial location.

What is different from the Manual Autopatch is the repeater does not check autodial numbers against the antidialer table or toll restriction table. The repeater will dial any number that is programmed into any autodial location. This is why users are not allowed to program their own autodial numbers. The repeater trustee or control operators are required to program desired numbers to guard against unwanted numbers appearing in the user autodial locations.

Once the command has been entered to activate a User Autodial, the repeater will respond, "Autodial xxx" where xxx is the Autodial Location requested to be dialed. Once the repeater announces this message, it has properly decoded the command string as is waiting for the user to make a decision to have the phone number in the autodial loaction to be read back or cancelled.

If the user chooses to cancel the phone number read back, the user is required to "click" their PTT briefly after hearing the "Autodial xxx" message. This click refers to a brief transmission (> 200 mSec) by the user to signal the repeater to go ahead and dial the number.

If the user chooses to have the repeater read back the phone number, a brief "click" is not required and the repeater will read back the phone number in the autodial location selected after a brief pause following the "Autodial xxx" message.

After the repeater reads back the number entered, the user has to make a decision before the repeater will dial the number. If the autodial number was correct, the user is required to "click" their PTT to signal the repeater to dial the number. If no "click" is seen by the repeater, indicating the autodial number was incorrect, the repeater will cancel dialing of the number and the normal courtesy tone will be heard.

Some examples of procedures to properly access the User Autodial to dial a number in location 32:

Ex. 4    User Autodial procedure with readback:

1. User keys radio and identifies (ie. W7ABC for the autopatch).
2. User enters *32 in one sequence and releases PTT.
3. Repeater responds "Autodial Thirty Two."
4. User does not "click" their PTT.
5. Repeater responds "5 5 5 1 2 3 4."
6. User "clicks" their PTT.
7. Repeater dials the number and places phone call on the air.

Ex. 5    User Autodial procedure without phone number readback:

1. User keys radio and identifies (ie. W7ABC for the autopatch).
2. User enters *32 in one sequence and releases PTT.
3. Repeater responds "Autodial Thirty Two."
4. User "clicks" their PTT.
5. Repeater dials the number and places phone call on the air.

Ex. 6    User Autodial procedure with readback and cancel:

6. User does not "click" their PTT.
7. Repeater cancels autopatch. Returns with normal courtesy tone and hangtime.

Activating the Emergency Autodial

The Emergency Autodialer offers quick access to ten prestored telephone numbers. When activated, the Emergency Autodialer reads back a message preprogrammed for that particular number as a feedback to the user that they entered the command correctly.

The Emergency Autodialer is intended for storage of the most frequently called emergency numbers, such as 911, police, fire, UHP, etc.

To activate the Emergency autodialer, enter the three or four digit command to access the desired stored number. Please note that the emergency autodials can be activated with the 91 or *91 prefix.

Also note the required "click" used in the Manual and User Autiodial Autopatches is not required when activating the Emergency Autodial Autopatch.

The following Emergency Autodials are available:

910 or * 910 - Utah Statewide Road and Weather Conditions
    911 or * 911 - Salt Lake 911 Emergency
    912 or * 912 - Salt Lake County Sheriff
    913 or * 913 - Farmington Sheriff's Department
    914 or * 914 - Bountiful Police Department
    915 or * 915 - Bountiful Fire Department
    916 or * 916 - Utah Highway Patrol - Salt Lake Dispatch
918 or * 918 - Salt Lake International Airport ATIS
    919 or * 919 - Ogden Emergency Dispatch Center

Terminating the Autopatch

To hang up any phone patch and return the repeater back to normal operating mode, enter the # command. The repeater will respond, "Call Complete at (time) on (date)" and then return with the normal courtesy tone and hangtime.

Autopatch Utilities

Autopatch
  Timer
  Extend
Manual Autopatches and User Autodial Autopatches will time-out after 5 minutes. Thirty seconds before timing out, the repeater will remind you with the message, "Thirty Seconds Left." After hearing this message, a user may extend their time for another 5 minutes by entering the command **3. The repeater responds, "Timer X." The user must be aware, however, that the "Thirty Seconds Left" message will not play again after extending their time.

Emergency Autodial Autopatches will time out after 30 minutes. Thirty minutes should be more than enough time to convey the information necessary when reporting an emergency. If more time is required, the Autopatch timer extend command can be entered thirty seconds before time-out.

Redial
  Last
  Number
The user can later redial the last number called through the repeater with the command * *, in case the number was busy, or for any other reason. The last number dialed is stored in the repeater for ten minutes, after which it is erased automatically.

Passing
  tones
  onto
  phone
The user does not have to worry about the quality of their tones being placed onto the phone line to dial a number. Once the repeater has accepted a valid autopatch command, it will in turn generate all necessary tones onto the phone line to insure proper dialing of the number.

There may be times, however, when the user needs to pass tones onto the phone line once a call has been placed to control an automated answering system for example. To pass tones onto the phone line once a called has been placed, proceed each string of DTMF commands intended for the automated answering system with the # key. The # key insures all tones following it will be passed onto the phone line.
